African American Public Humanities Initiative

The AAPHI is an interdisciplinary initiative that provides financial support and scholarly collaboration beyond the training you receive in your PhD program.  To be considered as an AAPHI Scholar, you must apply to a PhD program in one of the three cooperating Graduate Departments:  Department of Art History, Department of English or Department of History, via our on-line Graduate Studies Office on-line application Slate system.

Graduate programs at the University of Delaware have their own unique admission requirements, deadlines, review processes and decision timelines. The information below will help you navigate this process.

      Ready to Apply to a Program?  Application Instructions:

  • Step 1: Contact the department for which you will be applying to a PhD program to confirm dates & application process.
  • Step 2: Create an account in the UD Slate System to apply to your program of choice.

Please check the department website for application deadlines for the program to which you are applying.

Please be sure to select the African American Public Humanities Initiative tab on the departmental application to express your interest and to be considered for this program.  You will also be required to submit a brief, supplemental essay. You will then be contacted by the AAPHI program.
